Right to Information (RTI)
Under Article 19-A of the Constitution, access to information in all matters of public importance is a fundamental right of every citizen of Pakistan, subject to regulation and reasonable restriction imposed by law.
How RTI helps
Information obtained through RTI enables citizens to hold public officials accountable, comment on their performance and identify gaps and weaknesses of public bodies. Government also benefits by becoming aware of those gaps, and public officials can carry out their duties more efficiently.
How to file a request
Enclose complete documents under rule 10(2) of the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Rules and rule 5(4) on the duties of the Public Information Officer. These mainly include:
- Copy of Identity Card
- Contact number
- Email address
- Mailing address
Information may be requested for one (1) year only under rule 10(c). You can also apply directly to the Punjab RTI Commission online.
